Derek's Change of Command Cake

Mark's good friend from Fort Bragg is here at Fort Lewis with us and he is taking command of a company this Friday. I made this cake for him. The picture on the top is a golden snake thing, which is the unit insignia. The inside is 3 layers...red/white/blue. I will try to get a picture of the inside if I am able to go to the ceremony. Congrats Derek!

Wonderful Weekend

This past weekend one of my college roommates and one of my dearest friends, Kristen, came to visit. She got in town Friday morning and we didn't stop until Sunday afternoon when she had to go back to Texas. We started the trip with a fun day in Seattle. We went to the space needle and luckily it was such a beautiful day...we could see everything! The tulips were also quite pretty and photo worthy! Next, we went through the market, shopped a little on the streets of downtown and then headed the the Crab Pot for dinner. If you have never been there and live in the area...you MUST go! They dumped a bucket of crab legs, shrimp, potatoes, corn on the cob and sausage on the table. You get to adorn yourself with an adorable bib and they provide you with a hammer and a little fork tool to get the shells off the crabs. Amazing! I will definitely be returning to this little hot spot. We finished off the evening by watching my wedding video. Don't worry...this was Kerm's request...I did not force her to watch my wedding, although...it is quite wonderful! :)

Saturday was even crazier than Friday...
8:00 AM: 4.3 mile Army Airfield Race...we didn't stop the entire time. Hey...who doesn't want to run a race on vacation! She was a great sport and we had a lot of fun!

10:00 AM: Shower and get ready
11:30 AM: Lunch in Downtown Tacoma at Katie Downs
12:45 PM: Cupcakes at Hello Cupcake!!!!!! A little bit of heaven, for sure!
1:30 PM: Mani/Pedis
2:45 PM: Hannah Montana...we were channeling our inner 12 year olds...it was really cute!
5:00 PM: Home to clean up for dinner
7:00 PM: Melting Pot...Delicious meal!

Sadly, the fun had to come to an end on Sunday afternoon. :( We had a really great time and Daisy and I really enjoyed having some company! Daisy loved her so much that she slept on her face! Again...Kerm was quite the trooper! Thanks for coming to visit!!!!! :)

Passport Cover

After 3 attempts...I finally made a passport cover that would fit! Success! Again...my stiching isn't great, but I am trying to get better.

Project #1

I had high hopes for this apron when I first started. I sewed the pocket first, and I was feeling pretty confident. Then the fun part! Ha ha....curves are not for beginners! Please don't look at any of the stitching. Just take a moment to admire the adorable fabric with pears on it. Hopefully the next project will be an improvement. Note: The pattern said this was an EASY sew project...maybe true if you already a sewing expert...which I am not!

Dear Husband, JoAnn MADE me do it!

Well, I found a 40% JoAnn coupon online...printed it out and off I went to Tacoma to buy some fabric to try some new projects. As you can see...I found a few more items that I really NEEDED, in order to sew...They were all practically necessities! So, I got to the checkout counter only to find out that my coupon was expired. :( Oh well, I better get to sewing, so I can show Mark exactly why I had to have all of my goodies! :)

Daisy and her purse!

So...about 6 months ago I found this fabric with dog tags on it, and I decided that Daisy needed a bag to take when she goes to stay with other people or to the kennel. Even dogs should accessorize! I found a pattern for a reversible bag online and it looked rather large, because I needed something big enough for food, toys, treats, harness and leash. Finally, I got around to attempting to sew this bag. Let me assure you that I did buy at least 4 yards of each material, because I didn't read the instructions and assumed that this was a big bag. Oh boy...was I ever wrong. As I started cutting, I realized it was smaller than I imagined, but I continued...because, well I have nothing better to do. The finished product turned out really cute, but way too small.

I positioned the bag on the stairs to take a picture of my craft...and....Daisy decided to pose with her purse! It was simply adorable and I had to share....here she is with her purse! :)

Shrinky Dink

Here are the finished products...
Texas, flowers and butterfly are all key chains. The little bird rectangles are earrings. Lots of fun!!!

Time=Strength

It has been way too long since I have posted anything, but I have not had TIME. I don't know where my time goes, because I really don't think I am all that busy...and when I do have time to write, well...nothing comes to mind. I guess the last month has been pretty lame. Let's see...I work in Tacoma, I teach dance, I cook dinner, I do laundry...and I RUN!

Yes, kids...I am still running. And...I am getting STRONGER, but let's face it...running is hard. I have been at this 1/2 marathon training for 6 weeks. I haven't even missed one run, but each day is a challenge. Mark laughed the other day because I explained to him that running is hard because my legs "seize" up. He said there is no way my legs "seize" up when I run 2 miles. OK...so maybe that was an exaggeration on my end, but seriously...my legs feel the BURN!

When I am running, I find myself thinking...A LOT! I can't run with my ipod, because it is a touch screen and it is huge. So...all I can do is listen to cars driving by, enjoy my surroundings, and think. I do quite a bit of self talk and self encouragement and I set little goals as I go. And frequently, I have been comparing my runs to what is going on in my life. Let me be real with you people...being an Army Wife is not as glamorous as it sounds. This is also very hard! Luckily, I do have the most amazing husband, so that makes this journey a smidgen easier...but, I miss TX and my family and my friends! So, back to the point of how my runs parallel my life at this point.

Dealing with the Army and running are both hard...in different ways of course. Running=Physical pain...Army taking my husband away for weeks and months and years=Emotional pain. I am sure you get the picture. Luckily, I know that by going through these challenges...I am getting stronger. I am getting stronger physically and mentally. I know that if the Lord brings me to it...He WILL get me through it. And that, my friends is why TIME=STRENGTH!

Well, I am off for a nice little jog around the neighborhood (Please pray it doesn't start raining in the next 35 minutes!) Then...off to the store to gather lonely wife food...for example: Lean Cuisine and cereal. Then...treats for tonight's Shrinky Dink Craft night.

I promise to post pictures of the above mention Shrinky Dinks...you remember...those things from the 80's. Apparently they are back!
