Taking shape!

This house seems like it is FLYING up!!!!  Our sales guy drives by the house every couple of days and sends us these pictures.  He literally DRIVES by!  I would love for him to get out of his car and take a few more pics, but Mark has asked and this is the best we get.  I can't wait to go see it in person next weekend!!!!

A day in DC

Since our weekends are quickly coming to an end here in DC, we need to make the most of each and every one!  Today, we had planned to go to the National Gallery of Art and eat BBQ at Hill Country BBQ.  We got to the museum about 20 minutes before it opened, so we took that time to ride the Smithsonian Carousel on the National Mall.

Now...it has been a few years since I have been on a carousel, but I certainly don't remember them going this fast!  Holy moly!!!!  The guy only gave us about 30 seconds to pick a horse.  As I sat KG on the horse, Mark was telling me from across the fence that if you aren't 42 inches tall, you have to sit in one of the chariots or have an adult on with you.  Well, it was too late for that because the operator turned it on full speed!  KG has a firm grip on the pole and on my necklace and I'm holding on to her for dear life!  I got in about 100 squats as I went up and down with the horse while maintaining a hold on KG.  Check out her hair blowing as we fly around!  I think she enjoyed it, but next time we will sit in the chariot!

This picture was after we stopped!

After the crazy carousel ride, we walked back over to the museum to check out some art work and expose KG to some culture early on.  I don't think I really "get it".  Looking at a bunch of old paintings just doesn't get me too excited.  It was cool to see a Monet, a Rembrandt and a DaVinci!

Once we finished the museum, we walked over to Hill Country BBQ!  Who knew this little gem existed right, smack in the middle of Washington DC.  It sits at 7th and Pennsylvania Ave.  There are huge smokers in the building and they have their wood shipped in from TX.  It is the real deal!  They even have Blue Bell ice cream!  The brisket was amazing and the mac and cheese was to die for!  Mark and KG loved the banana pudding.  :)  It was her first taste and she cried when it was all gone.

It was a great day of seeing some sights and trying something new!  Just a few more weekends to enjoy our Nations Capital!

A Strong Foundation

My Dad and Grandad went out to our new house today to put some eyes on it and check the progress.  It is looking good so far!  Next week they should start framing!  Not too much longer and we will be Texans again!

Pumpkin Cookies

My cousin, Emili, came over today and we made some pumpkin cookies just for fun.  Hopefully Mark's class will enjoy their treat tomorrow.  :)

Photography Class Wk 1

I finally started my photography class on Monday!  I haven't been so excited about something in a long while!  I thought I knew a little about photography, but I'm only 3 days in and I feel like such a rookie! So many buttons and knobs that have to be adjusted to just get one picture that looks decent!

This week our first lesson is on white balance.  Look at the huge difference!

The first 2 pictures I set my own white balance in Kelvin and was experimenting with different levels.

The first one is obviously way too blue!

This is the one that I ended up with, Kelvin 5600.

This is auto white balance from the camera...way to greenish.

So much fun to learn and grow!  It helps to have someone sit still while I play with all the settings.  Try this on an 11 month old and the results are not so great and I have totally missed the moment!  Hopefully, it will become second nature to get everything set.

11 Months Old

Hey Look!  I'm 11 months old now!!!!

Typical...KG is playing with her toes!  :)

Happy 11 months Baby Girl!

Dear Kenleigh,
I know I say this every month, but I can't believe that you are already 11 months!  What an amazing 11 months it has been!  This past month just might have been the best one yet.  You are changing every day and you are learning like a little sponge.  At the beginning of the month, Nonni flew from Texas to celebrate Mommy's 30th birthday.  We had lots of fun girl time, shopping and eating!  This month you have discovered that you love to go outside!  You like to stand at the backdoor and watch the squirrels or Dixie, or Daddy mowing.  You love to go check the mail with Mommy in the afternoon and you want to close the mailbox and carry the mail.  You are such a great helper already!  You are a social butterfly and you cry when people leave our house.  You can hold on to something with one hand and bend down to get something with your other hand.  You can cruise around all of the furniture and you can pull up on just about anything.  You have finally mastered your walker and you like to zip around the house.  You have tried to stand a few times without holding on to something, but you sit down right away.  We went to the Dr. on September 20, 2012 for a very late 9 month check up.  At that point you weighed 18 lb., 10.5 oz. and you were 28 inches tall.  This put you in the 46% for weight and 37% for height.  I don't think you have grown much since that check up.  You have slowed down a little on growing, but the Dr. said that is totally normal and you are right on track.  You are definitely saying "DaDa"!  You say it all the time and you refer to Daddy when you say it.  You also try to say "uh-oh" when you drop something, but you haven't said "mama" again since the 1 time last month.  You love to  talk on FaceTime and you know how to pretend talk on the phone.  You hold it up to your shoulder, blabber a bit and then throw it down.  You love when we read books to you.  Your favorites are Goodnight Moon and any books with flaps that you can lift up, and you love to turn the pages.  You are taking two, 1 hour naps a day and sleeping OK at night.  You have recently started waking up around 3AM and it isn't easy to get you back to sleep.  You love food and you have yet to turn down anything that is offered to you.  You are wearing size 3 diapers still and 12 month clothes are starting to fit.  You make Mommy and Daddy smile everyday and you are just so much fun!  I can't believe we will be celebrating your birthday next month!  We love you so much!

Ft. Belvoir Oktoberfest

It is that time of year again for Ft. Belvoir to put on their annual Oktoberfest!  We had so much fun last year, that we decided to go again!  It was an overcast, chilly, fall day and we had a great time listening and dancing around to German music!  We had our fill of funnel cakes and pretzels and Mark enjoyed his favorite beer of all time, Spaten!  This became his favorite when he went to the real Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany a few years ago.

Little German girls. :)  (I'm 1/4 German, so that makes K 1/8!)

So much fun to watch them dance!

Our little family!

Love these baby blues!

Couldn't resist getting a pic of the old Southlake Dragon in front of the Dragon Wagon!

I love Oktoberfest!!!!

Mt Vernon Fall Wine Festival

George Washington's Mt. Vernon has 2 wine festivals a year.  One in the Spring and one in the Fall.  We had planned to go to the one in the Spring, but I was in Texas, so we really wanted to go to the Fall one.  We knew that it sells out fast, so last time we were visiting Mt. Vernon, about a month ago, we bought our tickets.

We didn't realize this was an adult's only event until I read the packet that came with our tickets.  I called to make sure we could bring our baby, since we didn't have a babysitter.  They said it would be ok, but she was the ONLY baby at the event.  I guess we will start her early with wine loving!

There was a tent set up with wine tasting tables from vineyards around the area.  They also had free Coke products for the DD's...that would be me!  Mark picked out a couple of bottles of wine...one for the festival and one for some time in the future.  While Mark enjoyed his wine...I fed K cheerios and tried to keep her from rolling down the hill into the river.  That would have put a huge damper on an enjoyable evening.  They had a jazz/blues band and everyone was set up on blankets and chairs on the back lawn overlooking the Potomac River.  K loved dancing to the music!  It was an amazing evening!  Definitely the #1 thing we have done since we have lived here.

Before we left we had a photo op with good 'ole George and Martha.  They were really sweet and thought K was super cute.  :)  We didn't get to stay as long as we would have liked, but since the littlest lady in our family runs the show we had to get home.  Maybe we can come back and visit again sometime and hire a babysitter or a grandmother!
